Omar Alwan, who is just seventeen years old and almost eighteen, is currently pursuing his goal of becoming a well-known actor. He is originally from Syria, but has been living in the Netherlands for the past six years. He was discovered once, and it is now his greatest passion. Omar will remember this day forever because now he landed the lead role in the film Do Not Hesitate. This film takes place during a war in the Middle East. Three Dutch soldiers are plagued by bad luck. They met Khalil there (played by Omar Alwan). The plot revolves around a series of disastrous events that continue to pile up. We now return to the beginning, when Omar's talent was discovered.
Was it always your dream to be an actor, as you play in the film Do Not Hesitate?
'Before I was discovered, I had no idea I wanted to be an actor', Omar clarified. He had only recently arrived in the Netherlands and was staying at the asylum seekers' center. When he was still living there, he was discovered by a film company. This discovery led to him landing a role in the film 'A Kiss.' He plays Abdi, a Syrian boy in an asylum seekers' centre who falls in love with a girl named Leyli. The Cinekid Festival awarded this movie as the Best Short Film. Yes, that's how he realised acting was his true calling.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
'The current state I'm in is good', Omar said. He is pleased with his accomplishments. ' I worked really hard for it'. Everything will be different in ten years, but will Omar continue acting? 'I am currently enrolled in the Dental Assistant programme, but I am unsure whether I will continue with dentistry after this'. Omar struggles to decide between dentistry and theathre at the academy. ' That's a difficult question', Omar says of where he sees himself in ten years.
Hollywood
Nonetheless, Omar wishes to continue acting. He has discovered a passion and is confident that it will lead to his success. He wishes to continue acting and interact with other actors. He'd like to meet the other actors and hear their stories. What is their background, and how did they break into the acting world? ' But do you want to be in a Hollywood film as well?' 'That would be a lot of fun,' Omar said. Many actors from around the world aspire to work in Hollywood. 'Perhaps then I'll get to meet my favourite actor and work with him on a film.' Will Smith, the American actor formerly known as The Fresh Prince, is Omar's favourite actor. The Fresh Prince.
Do Not Hesitate
Do Not Hesitate will be released in 2021. Khalil is played by Omar. Three young Dutch soldiers are stranded in the Middle East due to bad luck. They meet Khalil here and become entangled in a bizarre situation. Shariff Korver directed this film, which was nominated for an Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film.
'I'm not going to stop acting even if I continue with dentistry', Omar said. Having two passions allows you to kill two birds with one stone. You can always combine, or as Omar says, 'then I'll just become a dentist who also plays in movies'.
